Summary:
The La Jolla Band of Luise o Indians is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Trail Crew member.
In this lead role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, development, and improvement of mountain bike trails at our bike park.
The ideal candidate is passionate about outdoor recreation, has proven bike park experience in trail construction utilizing heavy machinery, and is committed to preserving the natural beauty of the La Jolla Indian Reservation.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are considered essential for this job classification:
1.
Perform routine, or specialized, trail maintenance tasks, including clearing debris, repairing trail surfaces, and maintaining proper drainage to ensure safe and enjoyable trail conditions for all users.
2.
Experience operating machinery on mountain slopes is required for this position.
But this job requires hand working as well.
3.
Assist in the planning, design, and construction of new mountain bike trails, including the selection of appropriate materials and the use of sustainable building techniques.
4.
Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, such as chainsaws, brush cutters, and compact excavators, in a safe and efficient manner.
5.
Understand and agree to use all proper PPE for any task being performed.
6.
Coordinate with other Trail Crew members and park staff to prioritize and schedule maintenance and construction projects.
7.
Monitor and assess trail conditions regularly, identifying and addressing any safety hazards, erosion issues, or other concerns.
8.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in trail design, construction, and maintenance.
9.
Act as an ambassador for the La Jolla Band of Luise o Indians and the bike park, providing excellent customer service and promoting responsible trail use among park visitors.
10.
Assist with special events, such as races, skills clinics, and trail work days, as needed.
11.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the La Jolla Band of Luise o Indians' bike park operations.
12.
Ability to work 10-hour shifts on a 4-day work week, when applicable.
Minimum
Qualifications:
1.
High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education in a related field, such as natural resource management, forestry, or environmental studies, is a plus.
2.
Previous machine operating experience at a bike park is required.
3.
Knowledge of sustainable trail design principles and best practices for trail maintenance.
4.
Ability to operate and maintain various hand and power tools, as well as heavy equipment, safely and effectively.
5.
Excellent physical fitness and the ability to perform strenuous manual labor in various weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
6.
Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
7.
A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work.
8.
First Aid and CPR certification, or the willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
9.
A passion for outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship, and preserving the cultural heritage of the La Jolla Indian Reservation.
Preferred:
EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED.
